Record Numbers in Medline Europe’s Third Annual Pink Glove Photo Competition
31 st October 2019
Another successful year of promoting breast cancer awareness and supporting local charities and organisations.
Medline’s third annual Pink Glove Photo Competition (PGPC), supporting breast cancer awareness and funding, wrapped up in October, and this year’s participation figures and donation amounts were bigger than ever. This annual competition unites healthcare professionals, patients, survivors and communities across Europe to celebrate hope for a cure and honour those affected by the disease. Competition participants don Medline’s Generation Pink® exam gloves and take creative photos of themselves, which are posted on Facebook for voting.
At the launch of this year’s competition, Medline announced that 2018 would see three winners, each receiving a prize in the form a donation to a breast cancer charity of choice. Our PGPC team received a record number of submissions this year—50 photos from eight European countries with more than 180 participants. In total, more than 25,000 votes, i.e. Facebook likes, were cast for these beautiful photos and accompanying stories and sentiments. We are very pleased to announce this year’s winners:
- 1st place: Italy, Asur 4 Senigallia (€1,250 prize)
- 2nd place: France, Un esprit sein, dans un corps sain (€750 prize)
- 3rd place: Spain, Diana Marcilla Hernández, en representación del Bloque Quirúrgico General del Complejo Hospitalario de Navarra (€500 prize).
The winning photo (pictured) from the senology department of the Senigallia Hospital in Senigallia, Italy, was a true team effort. The photo shows surgical instrumentalist nurse Giulia Alfano and was captured by Mario Tonti, an anaesthesia technician who also works in the operating theatre. 1 The photo’s caption ‘Esistono mani fatate che possono salvare vite’ means ‘There are magic hands that can save lives’. The department is currently determining to which organisation they would like to donate.
Breast cancer awareness is a natural extension of Medline’s corporate mission to improve patient care and enhance the quality of people’s lives. Our goal is to create and increase breast cancer awareness and promote early detection. Medline would like to thank each and every participant and those who cast votes on our Facebook page—your time and effort directly contribute to our vision of a world without breast cancer.
