Medline Europe Releases Its 2021 Sustainability Report
4 th October 2021
For the fifth year in a row, Medline International B.V. has published its annual Sustainability Report, covering Medline’s social, environmental and economic activities and impact (People, Planet, Prosperity) in Europe in 2020. The structure and contents of the report are shaped by the Global Reporting Initiative’s Standards.
In the context of Medline’s European operations, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is synonymous with sustainability. This year’s report not only provides an overview of the company and its financial performance but also showcases Medline’s strong CSR performance. Here are a few highlights from the report:
- We unveiled our strengthened ethical sourcing programme to better address the needs and well-being of workers in Medline’s product supply chain.
- We increased our focus on inclusion and diversity by launching an employee dashboard and revising our Inclusion and Diversity Statement.
- We supported communities in need through donations of cash and medical supplies, including a special initiative called Medline Gives Back in acknowledgement of the extreme hardship faced by local and international communities due to the coronavirus.
- We expanded our environmental certificates with an additional facility being ISO 14001:2015 certified and reinforced our Green Building Policy by pursuing LEED, BREEAM and Passive House certifications where possible.
- We started a new tradition of raising awareness of men’s health issues through our internal Movember moustache competition.
- We maintained employee well-being and connectedness during the COVID-19 pandemic through a comprehensive employee communication and engagement plan, mental health pilot programme and an extra year-end bonus for employee dedication and performance under exceptional circumstances.
Group President Tripp Amdur reflects:
‘The year 2020 was notable for its unpredictability and widespread disruption across multiple industries and in society in general. Within the healthcare industry, frontline workers affiliated with Medline’s customers (hospitals, clinics and other medical facilities) displayed great heroism under significant pressure as the COVID-19 pandemic persisted.
Medline is both proud and humbled to have contributed to the ongoing functioning of the healthcare systems in Europe by providing much-needed personal protective equipment and other medical supplies, and maintaining high customer service levels. Due to this, Medline enjoyed strong growth in Europe in 2020. And we achieved this good performance by executing a business strategy that prioritised an unwavering commitment to being an ethical and socially responsible company, regardless of the circumstances. This, in turn, enhanced our business’ resilience and boosted employee morale.’
